AUTHENTIC OLD STOCK ANCIENT PERSIAN HELMET VISOR NECK EAR GUARD ARABIC INSCRIPTION
$770.00
This is a classic example of an Indo-Persian kulah khud (helmet), likely dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. The helmet features a tall, conical steel skull rising to a pointed finial, a form designed both for deflecting blows and for symbolic elegance.
The surface is richly decorated with finely engraved floral arabesques and flowing calligraphic motifs, typical of Mughal and Persian artistic traditions. The broad rim is reinforced and fitted with rivets, originally intended to support a curtain of chain mail (aventail) to protect the neck and shoulders.
A sliding nasal guard is present at the front, allowing adjustment for facial protection, while the sides show mounts or plates that may have supported ear or cheek defenses. Such helmets were worn by elite cavalry and warriors across India, Persia, and Central Asia. Beyond their defensive purpose, they also served as symbols of rank, prestige, and craftsmanship.
The fine engraving and harmonious proportions suggest this helmet may have been made for a nobleman or high-ranking officer.
Made of hand-forged steel, hand hammered and hand chiseled and engraved.
Arabic Calligraphy hand engraved at Neck guard, Visor & at entire skull surface. The nasal guard is sliding and adjustable and has God Allah name engraved, the chain mail affixed to safe guard neck. Helmet. surface:
